肺微血管內皮細胞構成半選擇性屏障,該屏障對于肺氣體交換,調節液體和可溶物在血液與肺間質之間的流動具有重要意義。它還具有代謝功能,可以執行一定的非呼吸功能。在肺損傷中,PMECs是活性氧類的重要靶細胞之一。在肺炎的發生過程中,神經體液介質和氧化劑作用于內皮細胞,使得細胞間隙滲透性增加,蛋白質由血液進入間質。細胞間隙滲透性的增加導致低氧血癥,出現成人呼吸窘迫綜合征和非心源性肺水腫。
人肺微血管內皮細胞提取于人肺組織,細胞提取純化之后立即凍存。每管含有細胞數>5×105 cells/ml,此細胞通過vWF/Factor VIII 和CD31 (P-CAM)免疫熒光染色驗證,經測試不含有HIV-1、HBV、HCV、支原體、細菌、酵母和真菌。細胞可以達到10倍增。
