骨骼是一類動態組織,被破骨細胞和造骨細胞的協調作用不斷重塑的組織,成骨細胞是骨骼形成細胞,最初源于多能間充質干細胞。它們合成分泌組織細胞外基質和主要含I型膠原蛋白的類骨質,類骨質被造骨細胞鈣化,在此過程中,細胞在鈣化物質中嵌入陷窩中變成骨細胞。成骨細胞表達蛋白酶活化受體-1和血管內皮細胞生長因。研究表明,無論在體內還是體外,白血病抑制因子都可與造骨細胞表面結合誘導骨組織的形成。在顱骨縫合處造骨細胞的補充、增值、分化和凋亡的平衡對顱頂骨的形起關重要作用。
