        心肌細胞是機體最具有活力的細胞。它們是高度分化的高氧含量的細胞,擁有大量的線粒體。心肌細胞占有心臟重量的75%,但僅為心臟細胞數量的1/3。高度分化的心肌細胞幾乎沒有增殖能力,它們在a-腎上腺素的刺激下通過Ras/MEK途徑發生肥大生長。所有的心肌細胞都能自律性的將膜去極化和復極化。所有的心肌細胞收縮都是肌源性的,不受神經系統刺激。心肌細胞具有復雜的信號網絡,從而調節其在心臟節律性的泵出功能中的作用。心力衰竭時,心肌細胞的肥大和凋亡導致心肌收縮功能的下降。更好地了解心臟信號系統有助于揭示心肌細胞死亡的細胞機制。


        Sciencell研究實驗室的HCM是從人心臟分離得到的,原代凍存,冰凍運輸。每管細胞密度超過1×10^6/ml。細胞特性經肌球蛋白(myosin)免疫熒光鑒定。本細胞經檢測不含HIV-1、HBV、HCV、支原體、細菌、酵母菌和真菌。如采用ScienCell?實驗室提供的培養條件,可保證此細胞繼續的培養。HCM因為不能增殖,故不能夠擴大或長期培養。
